The feel of Jericoacoara

There are no paved roads in Jeri. Streets are sand. Cars are buggies. The wind blows every day from July to January — which is exactly why this fishing village became the kitesurf capital of the Americas. Then someone ran fibre through the dunes, and suddenly you could close deals between sessions on Lagoa do Paraíso. Sunset on Duna do Pôr do Sol is a daily ritual the whole village shows up for.

The honest take

What to know before you book

The wins

  • Wind, sun, sand — every day
  • Tight, international community
  • No cars, no honking
  • Surprisingly fast internet

The trade-offs

  • Hard to get to (3h transfer from Fortaleza)
  • Sand gets into everything
  • No hospital — pharmacy only
  • Power cuts during heavy rain

The longer read

Sand streets, no cars, donkeys still in the mix — and somehow one of the most reliable fibre connections in the Northeast. Jeri is the kitesurf capital of Brazil and a magnet for nomads who want the off-grid feel without the off-grid friction.
