The feel of Florianópolis

Floripa is two cities pretending to be one island. The south is wild: empty beaches, lagoons, fishing villages. The north is polished: rooftop bars, beach clubs, the country's densest concentration of coworkings. Down the middle runs a startup scene so active locals call it Brazil's Silicon Island. You can surf at Joaquina before standup, take a meeting in a glass tower in Centro, and end the day grilling oysters in Ribeirão da Ilha.

What you came for

The Florianópolis essentials

Surf the whole island

Praia Mole for power, Joaquina for the classic break, Matadeiro when the south swells.

Coworking density

From CUBO-style hubs in the centre to beach-front spaces in Jurerê — pick your altitude.

Oysters from the source

Ribeirão da Ilha grows most of Brazil's oysters. R$ 30 a dozen, straight from the farm.

Trails everywhere

Lagoinha do Leste, Costa da Lagoa, Naufragados — hike-in beaches you'll have to yourself.

The honest take

What to know before you book

The wins

  • Brazil's safest major hub
  • Real startup ecosystem
  • Surf + lake + trails in one island
  • International airport

The trade-offs

  • Traffic in high season is real
  • Pricier than the northeast
  • Cold + grey weeks in July

The longer read
